DescriptionImage, looking south, showing City Automotive Service located at 464 Portage Street near downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan. The image was taken by Mr. John Todd on October 7th, 1941 at 4:15 p.m. Other businesses located within this structre are the Michigan Color Plate Company (George Bauer, Leo Pipe and Harry Reminga, Artists and Photo Engravers, 462 Portage Street) and the Globe Construction Company (Glenn S. Allen-President, Maurice Carmody-Vice President and Pansy Ellsworth-Secretary/Treasurer, 462 Portage Street). The gentleman leaning out of the second story window interrupted the photograph causing Mr. Todd to take a second, minus the man. By 1945 City Automotive Service would be replaced by the Great Lakes Greyhound Lines Inc. garage. This building, which once stood on the west side of Portage Street between Gibson and Lovell, would eventually be demolished along with the house visible next door. As of 2006 a parking lot is located at this site.
